babylon is a prequel of sorts, telling parts of Kris Jeehl’s story from his perspective. It takes place during the events of Silent, the first book in the Silent Trilogy.

Having personal experiences of PTSD, I take content warnings seriously. As a writer, I take spoilers seriously. Here’s an attempt at a happy medium.

Content Warnings include: Paedophilia & CSA (descriptions are often graphic), incest, self-harm (cutting, burning), terrorism (mass destruction of landmarks, with high death tolls; committed by white cultural Christians), emotional abuse (including severe and magically enhanced gaslighting), physical abuse (including choking), domestic/spousal abuse, a lot of blood (including blood-play), institutionalisation (including the re-education centres, prison, work camps, and nonconsensual admission to mental health care), extreme dissociation, Catholicism, murder, blackmail, child porn creation, just, holy shit this story is a lot.

AND ALSO: this whole story is from the POV of a white male terrorist. With that comes a degree of introspection and self-justification that can easily and fairly be interpreted as some form of apologism. That’s not the intention. Nor is the intention to lend any credence to the idea that terrorist are Broken People Lashing Out. Really it’s about the exploitation of traumatised children by adults… That old classic Silent Trilogy theme.

For further reference: the Bible verses are deliberate misquotes. The Nabokov & Tolstory quotes aren’t. And there’s a few paraphrased Tokyo Babylon quotes, for some reason.
